PTA Governance

Lake Avenue PTA is a chapter of the NYS PTA and National PTA. We are a registered 501(c)3 and subject to all applicable state and federal law, and all donations to the PTA are tax deductible.

Meet the PTA Board

  • Term: July 2024-June 2026

  • About Erin: Erin is the proud parent of a 2nd and 5th grader at Lake Ave with a rich history of volunteerism at the school. She formerly served as a room parent, Book Fair Co-Chair, Arts in Education grade-level rep initially, and then as Chair. She was also on the Centennial Committee and the Lake Avenue Building Equity Leadership Team (BELT). Her professional work centers around arts, museums, education, children's programming, and nonprofit management. She is a dedicated advocate for strong humanities programs and strong public schools.

  • Primary Responsibilities:

  1. Ensure successful volunteer, financial and organizational support for committees.

  2. Wholistically review, critique and enhance PTA activities to enrich the ever-evolving needs of Lake Ave’s families and students.

  3. As the PTA’s primary spokesperson, ensures the PTA fulfills its mission to be a powerful voice for all children, a relevant resource for families, and a strong advocate for maximizing the academic experience and well-being of every child.

Vice-President: Colleen Grassi

  • About Colleen: Colleen is on her 3rd (and last!!) PTA term and is the mom of a 5th grader and 3rd grader. She is also Lake Avenue alum! Colleen is a counselor at Saratoga Springs High School and loves everything Saratoga!

  • Primary Responsibilities:

    1. Step in and support the other board positions with the ebb & flow of needs within their roles.

    2. Liaison to room parents, committee chairs & organize the PTA meetings.

    3. Maintain flexibility to support PTA programs as needed.

Secretary: Caryn Simone

  • About Caryn: Caryn is a mother of two current Lake Ave students (2nd and 4th grade).  She is a middle school counselor in the Shenendehowa School District and has also spent time within Shen as a district level coordinator overseeing summer programming.  Caryn is thrilled to share her expertise in education as PTA secretary, with a focus on equity and inclusivity.

  • Primary Responsibilities:

  1. Ensuring meetings are effectively organized. 

  2. Maintain comprehensive records and meeting minutes.

  3. Manage schoolwide PTA communications through the LA Times, weekly PTA blasts and ad-hoc information.

Treasurer: Katherine (Katie) Hagen:

  • About Katie: Katie is a mother of 3, with her oldest son a current 1st grader at Lake Ave, a son in UPK at Caroline St. and an adorable baby girl who was born on May 4, 2024. Katie is a CFO with a national company headquartered in Saratoga Springs. Her experience in finance, as well as owning her own tutoring company for five years and unyielding energy make her well suited for this role.

  • Primary Responsibilities:

    1. Assist program leaders/volunteers with setting yearly program budgets

    2. Track and report on program expenditures, volunteer expenditures and cash, and report against budgets at PTA meetings

    3. Manage payments for all vendors and reimbursements
